A CNR rail runs through Vegreville. The Town is also served by a modern airport with complete facilities including a new terminal building and a lighted 4000-foot runway.
Vegreville, with a population of 5,834 offers a complete range of services, a friendly small-town atmosphere and proximity to Edmonton. These features make the Town an attractive place to raise a family. Vegreville has a relatively low and stable tax rate. Housing is abundant; there are many serviced lots at very reasonable prices.
The Town has excellent educational and recreational facilities. Schools range from elementary to college level. The showpiece of the Town's recreational facilities is an indoor Aquatic and Fitness Centre. The complex contains a leisure pool, waterslide, whirlpool, sauna, fitness room and a cultural and dance studio. A modern, full size indoor ice arena is attached to the Aquatic and Fitness Centre. Nearby is a Multi-purpose building and Curling Rink.
Vegreville is a regional headquarters for TransCanada Pipelines Ltd., ATCO Electric and the Federal Immigration Case Processing Centre. There is a wide range of professional banking and accounting services available to residents and businesses. The Province's major environmental research facility, the Alberta Innovates Technology Futures, is located in Vegreville. State-of-the-art testing and analysis services for air, water and plant and animal life are provided to the entire Province. Last, but not least, the Town is a major service centre for the surrounding agricultural community.
There are numerous potential industrial sites in the Vegreville area. A water pipeline from Edmonton can provide industries with up to one million gallons of water per day. The Town also has modern sewage facilities; its sewage lagoon is capable of handling a population four times the current size of Vegreville.
