Vegreville Town Council Proclaims October 17-23, 2022, as ‘Waste Reduction Week’
Vegreville, AB (October 19, 2022) – The Town of Vegreville has joined hundreds of other municipalities across the country in officially proclaiming October 17-23, 2022, as ‘Waste Reduction Week’.

Waste Reduction and Recycling Weeks in Canada started in the mid-1980s when several recycling councils and environmental organizations began holding provincial events. In 2001, the national Waste Reduction Week program was formalized by Circular Innovation Council (formerly Recycling Council of Ontario) who now leads the national campaign with support from a coalition of not-for-profit environmental groups and governments from each of the 13 provincial and territorial jurisdictions across Canada.
The Town of Vegreville is using ‘Waste Reduction Week’ as a chance to remind residents of the importance of properly sorting and disposing of their waste by utilizing the correct rear lane bins or Vegreville’s Central Recycling Drop Off Centre.
Residents can also expect more information from an upcoming ‘What Goes Where?’ campaign that will include handouts, digital infographics and more as a proper waste sorting reminder/how-to guide.
The Town of Vegreville thanks its residents for their on-going commitment to waste reduction within the community. In 2021 alone, 1.3-million pounds of waste was diverted from the Vegreville Sanitary Landfill thanks to use of Vegreville’s robust recycling program.
