Customers are not allowed to assist in the shredding process but can witness the process from the viewing area.
Note: Please remove binding clips, paper clips, or any newsprint material that is public knowledge. We will only rip off address labels on magazines, etc. to keep all shredding as white as possible and free of newsprint. We also do not shred carbon paper.

Trash & Blue Bins
Blue Bin Recycling Acceptable Materials
Vegreville has 3 garbage trucks that service the Town. Each household is provided with a shared bin in their lane or a roll-out for those houses that do not have a lane.
Roll out bins must be accessible to the garbage truck and all garbage must be inside the bin.
Please be mindful when disposing of garbage, although they are "garbage" bins, they're meant for regular household waste only. Some items cannot go into the bins, such as branches, logs, appliances, car parts, oil, concrete, dirt, propane bottles, etc. If you're in doubt about what can be placed in the bin, please contact the Vegreville Materials Recovery Facility at 780-632-3197 or the Public Works Department at 780-632-3439 OR you can view our What Goes Where handout HERE
Composting
Compost pick up for 2024 will end Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
The Town of Vegreville collects compost from May to October (weather-dependent). The collection of our compostable waste stream is a simple and inexpensive way to turn the waste we discard into a source of renewable energy. The process is environmentally friendly and when done on a regular basis, reduces the amount of household waste entering our landfill, resulting in the reduction of greenhouse gases, which in turn, extends the life of the landfill.
Contaminated compost is one of the major challenges our compost program faces, resulting in increased time and costs. Major contaminants include:
- Plastic Bags
- Trees
- Branches
- Concrete
- Rocks
- Metal
- General Garbage
- Glass
Please ensure that when collecting compost that the items noted above are not included with your compostable materials.
If you don't have a bin near you, you can take your compost to the Vegreville Sanitary Landfill at no charge. To request a bin in your lane, please contact Municipal Services at 780-632-3439. Compost buckets to keep under your kitchen sink are also available for purchase at the Vegreville Aquatic & Fitness Centre for $10.
Annual Municipal Recycling Roundup
The annual Recycling Round-Up in Vegreville is a highly anticipated event that takes place every June at the Central Recycling Drop-Off Centre, providing an excellent opportunity for residents to responsibly dispose of various household hazardous items. Have old electronics, unused paints, worn-out tires, or used oil sitting around? This event is your chance to clear out the clutter and ensure these potentially harmful materials are safely disposed of.
The Recycling Roundup offers a convenient and eco-friendly solution for residents to rid their homes of these unwanted items. By participating in this event, you'll contribute to a cleaner and safer environment for everyone in the community.
