Town of Vegreville Sets Out COVID-19 Guidelines and Protocols for Garage/Yard Sales

Vegreville, AB (April 27, 2021) – While the Town of Vegreville is not endorsing having or attending garage/yard sales amid the COVID-19 pandemic, thorough guidelines and protocols are now available at vegreville.com in the hopes of ensuring best practices and everyone’s safety.

The Town of Vegreville has confirmed with the Office of Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer that restrictions on garage/yard sales can be lifted but highly encourages residents hosting a sale to adhere to the guidelines which detail proper physical distancing, proper hygiene and frequent surface sanitization.

We understand that everyone is hoping to return to some sense of normal but our community, much like the rest of the province and country, is still very much in a fight against COVID-19. If you’re hosting or attending a garage or yard sale, we strongly encourage you to do so safely and responsibly.”

Tim MacPhee, Mayor, Town of Vegreville

Open quotation mark with solid fill“The guidelines laid out by Alberta Health Services pertaining to garage or yard sales are very similar to those for the retail sector. At the end of the day, it will be up to the sale’s hosts to enforce those guidelines and to ensure everyone’s safety. I’d also strongly encourage anyone who observes that a sale’s host isn’t adhering to the rules, not support that sale.”

Phil Rowe, Community Services Director, Town of Vegreville

Residents are reminded that hosting a garage/yard sale does not require a permit however signage that advertises those sales can only be placed on the residential lot/site where the sale is being held or free standing on public boulevards for a maximum of seven days. Signs posted in any other location (light posts, other residents’ properties, etc.) will be removed and a ticket will be issued to the advertised address.
