Hole #6 Ukrainian Village Grain Elevator

Ukrainian Village Grain Elevator

The Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is located approximately 50 kilometers west of Vegreville along Highway 16. The Village is home to the Bellis Home Grain Co Elevator. The Home Grain Company Limited Elevator was built in 1922 in the town of Bellis. Many towns in Western Canada had at least one grain elevator along the railway tracks, some towns had up to 5 or 6. Elevators such as this one allowed farmers to sell their grain into the world grain market and earn income. The elevator companies bought the grain from farmers and then sold it out to market.
