Aquatic Certification Courses

Thinking of becoming a lifeguard or looking to learn valuable first aid skills? The Vegreville Aquatic & Fitness Centre periodically offers Bronze Medallion, National Lifeguard, and First Aid courses.

Aquatic Certification Course Guidelines:

  • 100% Attendance is mandatory for all certification courses
  • What to bring with you: water bottle, snacks, extra bathing suit, towel, pen/pencil, hi-lighter, and lunch.
  • All courses will be held at the Recreation Centre

Lifesaving Courses - Steps to Become a Lifeguard:

Step #1: Bronze Medallion / CPR-C
Step #2: Intermediate First Aid CPR-C and AED 
Step #3: Bronze Cross
Step #4: National Lifeguard

 


UPCOMING LIFEGUARD COURSE:

STEP 1 - BRONZE MEDALLION

Prerequisite: Completion of the Lifesaving Society's Bronze Star Award or 13+ years. The Lifesaving Society's Bronze Medallion course teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principes embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defense and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim.
