Campaign Period: The campaign period for the 2025 Vegreville Municipal Election runs from October 31, 2024 to December 31, 2025. 

Nomination Period: The nomination period for the 2025 Vegreville Municipal Election runs from January 1 to September 22, 2025.

Every four years, municipal voters get the opportunity to elect a mayor and councillors. Your community is shaped by the outcome of an election. When you vote in the election, you make democracy work.  

Under new provincial legislation, all eligible voters who wish to vote in an Alberta Municipal Election must be listed on a Permanent Electors Register which will be maintained by each municipality once obtained from Elections Alberta. This process is new to Albertans, the Town of Vegreville and its voters. 

You are eligible to vote if you are:  

• At least 18 years of age. 
• A Canadian citizen. 
• A resident of Alberta and your place of residence is located in the Town of Vegreville on Election Day, October 20, 2025.

Register to Vote 

Please Note: Registering in advance through Elections Alberta has now closed. Please see the information below on ID requirements for voting if you did not pre-register by the September 15, 2025 closing date.

ID Requirements 

You are eligible to vote if you are: At least 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen your place of residence is located in the Town of Vegreville on Election Day, October 20, 2025. 

All Voters may be required to complete a statement of elector eligibility that they are eligible to vote.   

There are two scenarios that will determine what ID you need in order to vote:

1. Registered voters are required to show valid government issued identification containing, at minimum, the voter's photograph and name. 
2. Non-Registered voters are required to validate their ID by providing one of the following: 

• One piece of Government issued identification containing the voter's photograph, name and current address; or 
• One piece of identification containing the voter's name and current address. 
• Those unable to produce identification set out above may have a registered voter vouch for them (see vouching section below). 

For Identification Containing a Mailing Address (e.g., PO Box):

• If you registered to vote at your current physical address, you can use your Driver’s License or Identification Card with your current mailing address. 
• If you are not registered to vote or need to register at a new physical address: 
• If you have a Government of Alberta-issued Driver’s License or Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, you do not need additional identification. 
• If you do not have a Government of Alberta-issued license, you will need additional identification to prove your physical address (e.g., legal land description, lot-block-plan, and/or 911 address) prior to voting.

Vouching 

** New for 2025: The province has introduced a significant change to the rules surrounding vouching. An individual vouching is now only allowed to validate another person’s address and not their identity. Due to this change, all voters require valid identification, otherwise it is not possible for a person to vote. 

If you are a non-registered voter unable to produce identification with your address, you may have a registered voter vouch for you.  

An individual can have another voter vouch for them if: 

• The individual requesting shows valid identification.  

• The individual requesting submits a statement by filling out a form provided by the Election Officer at a Voting Station.  

• The individual requesting is accompanied by another voter who can validate their current address.   

• This voter who is validating an address needs to be registered and listed on the Permanent Electors Register.  

• The voter who is validating may vouch for more than one person ONLY if every person they vouch for shares the same current address.  

• A scrutineer shall not vouch for any person.

The list below describes important dates for voters and candidates:

• January 1, 2025: Nomination Period Opens 

• September 15, 2025: Deadline to register through Voterlink. 

• September 22, 2025: Nomination Period Closes at Noon 

• September 23, 2025: Deadline to Withdraw Nomination Closes at Noon

• September 30, 2025: Update to Campaign Disclosure Statements deadlines as of May 2025. *On or before September 30 of a year in which a general election is to be held, a candidate who has received contributions in the period beginning on January 1 and ending on July 31 of that year must file a disclosure statement in respect of that period. 

• October 20, 2025: Election Day 

• October 21-November 7, 2025: Council Orientation & Training Sessions (Note: Attendance is mandatory for all elected officials) 

• October 27, 2025: Swearing-In Ceremony, Organizational Meeting, Inaugural Council Meeting (Note: Attendance is mandatory for all elected officials) 

• December 31, 2025: Campaign Period Ends 

• March 1, 2026: 2025 Campaign Disclosure Statements are due 

Election Worker Opportunity

The Town of Vegreville is currently accepting applications for Municipal Election Workers for the upcoming Election Day on Monday, October 20, 2025. 

This is a temporary employment opportunity open to individuals 16 years of age or older who are eligible to work in Canada. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong communication and basic literacy skills, legible printing, and the ability to learn quickly and follow detailed instructions. Attention to detail and the ability to work long shifts (12–14 hours) are essential. 

Training will be provided to ensure all workers are well-prepared to support a fair and efficient election process. Please complete the application below.
