PUBLIC NOTICE: Heavy Rainfall Impacting Municipal Systems

The Town of Vegreville continues to work around the clock to mitigate the impacts of what is considered an unprecedented weather event for our region.

As of approximately 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, nearly 5 inches / 127 millimetres of rainfall had been recorded in some areas of Vegreville over an approximately 24-hour period.

At this time, all Town systems and infrastructure remain fully operational and are working as intended. However, the significant amount of accumulated — and continuing — rainfall has pushed these systems to their limits.

The Town is aware of sewer backups affecting some residences within the community and, in addition to town crews, has contracted several independent vacuum trucks to assist with moving water and helping reduce pressure on the system.

Residents are asked to limit water use where possible until conditions improve. This includes reducing running dishwashers and washing machines.

The Town of Vegreville thanks residents for their patience and understanding as crews continue working diligently to alleviate stress on the system. The Town would also like to thank the contractors who are providing additional support during this ongoing response.
