Rainfall Warning Issued for Vegreville Region: Residents Asked to Direct Sump Pumps Outside
Environment Canada has issued a Level Orange Rainfall Warning for the Vegreville region, with total rainfall amounts of 70 to 100 millimeters possible.
Rain is expected to begin overnight on Friday, June 19, and intensify throughout Saturday. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue through Sunday before gradually tapering off Sunday night.
Where possible, residents are being asked to reroute sump pump discharge lines outside the home and toward storm drains, ensuring water is directed away from foundations and does not flow onto neighbouring properties.
Directing sump pump discharge outside helps reduce the amount of groundwater entering the sanitary sewer system during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents should continue monitoring local weather forecasts and Town of Vegreville communication channels for further updates.
