More Heavy Rain on the Way - Have You Rerouted Your Sump Pump Discharge Line?

Environment Canada has once again issued a Level Orange Rainfall Warning for the Vegreville region, with an additional 40 to 70 millimetres of rainfall possible.

Residents are again encouraged to take steps to help reduce pressure on the Town’s sanitary sewer system. Where possible, please reroute sump pump discharge lines outside the home and toward storm drains. Water should be directed away from foundations and must not flow onto neighbouring properties.

Directing sump pump discharge outside helps reduce the amount of groundwater entering the sanitary sewer system during periods of heavy rainfall.

Residents are also urged to exercise caution near the banks of the Vermilion River. Water levels are currently high and continue to rise due to the rainfall already received. The river is also flowing at a rapid rate, creating potentially dangerous conditions near the water and along unstable or saturated riverbanks.

Residents should avoid approaching the river wherever possible and keep children and pets a safe distance from the water’s edge.

The Town of Vegreville will continue monitoring conditions and will provide further updates as information becomes available.
