Regional Recreation Feasibility Study Report and Survey - Now Available!
Regional Recreation Feasibility Study Report is Now Available
Vegreville, AB (February 1, 2026) – The Town of Vegreville is pleased to announce the release of the Regional Recreation Feasibility Study Report, marking a significant milestone in a collaborative effort to explore the future of recreation services and facilities across the region.
The important initiative, funded by the Alberta Community Partnership Intermunicipal Collaboration stream, was guided by the Regional Recreation Steering Committee, comprised of elected officials from the Town of Vegreville, Beaver County, County of Minburn, Town of Mundare, Village of Holden, Village of Andrew, and Village of Chipman. The committee worked together to examine current and future regional recreation needs, challenges, and opportunities.
The study was conducted with the support of Orange Crow Leadership (OCL), which led extensive public engagement activities throughout the fall of 2024 and provided research, analysis, and professional guidance resulting in the final report.
Both the full report and a summarized version are now available for public viewing on the Town of Vegreville website at vegreville.com.
“Recreation isn’t just a luxury in our region—it’s a necessity. This assessment stands as a testament to what we can achieve through the collaborative efforts of our Regional Steering Committee. As we look ahead, we hope the 15 invited communities will thoughtfully consider cost-sharing, with the goal of creating a sustainable, high-impact recreation solution that serves all residents across our region for generations to come.”

The comprehensive report explains the potential economic impacts of the proposed regional recreation project—including job creation, increased revenue opportunities, and tax impacts related to upgrading existing infrastructure versus investing in a new facility. To that end, a new public survey is now open, inviting local and regional residents to:
review the findings of the Regional Recreation Feasibility Study;
share their perspectives on the proposed options and outcomes; and
provide input on their vision for the future of recreation services and facilities in the region.
“It's essential that residents take the time to fully understand the information being shared—this could shape the future of recreation in our region. The choice between building a new facility, upgrading the current one, or potentially having no facility at all hinges on informed community input. That’s why we’re encouraging residents, both locally and regionally, to complete this new survey”
