Snow Shoveling and Removal Reminder

Let it snow, Let it snow... but where does it go?

Here are a few reminders when it comes to snow shoveling and removal within the Town of Vegreville.

Clearing Sidewalks

  • Residents have 72-hours after a snowfall to clear snow/ice from any sidewalk adjacent to the property that the resident owns or resides in.
  • If residents fail to clear snow/ice within 72-hours post snowfall, the Town of Vegreville can arrange to have the sidewalk cleared, with the expenses and costs incurred by the Town paid by the resident.

Residents cannot clear snow or ice from their property onto:
  • the road (unless the property in question is in the Downtown Core; see more below)
  • any drainage ditch, culvert or catch basin
  • any public place
  • private property that is not their own
  • a location that restricts access to, or visibility or operation of, a fire hydrant

Downtown Core Sidewalks

Designated areas where it is permitted to clear snow/ice onto the road (so long it does not impede the flow of traffic, reduce driver visibility, damage or create a risk of damage to motor vehicles or endanger those travelling upon, or near, the road in question) include:

  • 49th Street - 49th Avenue to 52nd Avenue (west side only)
  • 50th Street - 48th Avenue to Railway Crossing
  • 50th Street - Vegreville Centennial Library
  • 49th Avenue - to alley east & west of 50th Street
  • 50th Avenue - alley west of 50th Street to 49th Street
  • 51st Avenue - alley west of 50th Street to 49th Street
  • 52nd Avenue - alley east of 50th Street to 49th Street
